VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> If you plan on drinking alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day, do not rely on luck and designate a sober driver. On Monday night March 17, 2025, the California Highway Patrol, Victorville Station will conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint.

The primary objective of any Sobriety Checkpoint is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist on our highways by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of drunk driving related crashes and/or prior arrests.

“A Sobriety Checkpoint is an effective and proven tool to deter drunk driving and remove unlicensed drivers from local highways,” stated CHP officials. “They also help raise public awareness of these most important driver safety issues while augmenting regular patrol operations.”

The Checkpoint will be staffed by uniformed officers from the CHP who are trained in detecting alcohol or drug impaired drivers.

Officers will also be equipped with handheld, blood alcohol testing devices, which provide an accurate indication of alcoholic beverage consumption.

Traffic permitting, all drivers will be screened as they pass through the Checkpoint. Those drivers that had been drinking or exhibit signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be detained for further evaluation and field testing.

Drivers who are determined to be under the influence will be physically arrested and their vehicles towed away. Any suspended or unlicensed driver passing through the checkpoint will be cited and their vehicles impounded.

To help keep the roads safe, the CHP encourages the public to report impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.  Be prepared to provide the public safety dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, location, and the direction the vehicle is traveling.

Celebrate responsibly to help ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.  Always designate a sober driver or use public transportation, rideshare services, or taxi.

The CHP encourages the public to call 911 to report impaired drivers, excessive speeding, and unsafe behavior on the roadways. The life you save could be your own.

AAA Auto Club Tipsy Tow services will start 6 pm on Monday, March 17 and run through 6am Tuesday, March 18.

To take advantage of the service, you should call 1-800-400-4AAA and state that they need a Tipsy Tow. Drivers should be prepared to provide their name, home address, phone number, location and vehicle description.

A regular Auto Club-contracted roadside service truck will be dispatched to your location. You do not have to be a AAA member to use the service.
