BARSTOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> No serious injuries were reported after a semi tractor-trailer veered off the interstate struck a power pole Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 5:12am on July 16, 2025, on westbound Interstate 40 just before the East Main Street exit
The semi driver was traveling westbound on I-40 Freeway toward Main St. when the semi started to veer off the road, and hit a power pole.
This cause major damage to the power pole and cause the power line to fall across the train tracks next to the freeway. Authorities also noted a smell of a natural gas in the air. This prompting safety concerns by CHP and requested both directions of the freeway be closed.
Utility companies, including Southwest Gas Company and Southern California Edison, were notified and dispatched emergency crews to the scene.
The freeway was reopened around 7am and only closed the westbound slow lane for repairs to the power pole and to remove the semi.
No injuries were reported from the scene.
No word yet on what led to the crash. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
