GRAPEVINE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol Grapevine Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers are trained to expect the unexpected, but even they were stunned by what they uncovered during a routine safety stop on a semi-truck.
Upon stopping the semi, officers were met with an astonishing sight a passenger sitting on a folding lawn chair inside the vehicle where the original passenger seat should have been.
This wasn’t just illegal—it was life-threatening,” said the CHP.
“In the event of a collision, unrestrained seats like the passenger were sitting in can still be thrown around in the vehicle or even been ejected, causing catastrophic injuries or death. A flimsy folding lawn chair, not designed for travel, offers zero protection. With a seatbelt on doesn’t means you are safe.”
The CHP said in a statement, when you’re on the road, proper seat belts and secured seating positions save lives. Riding in makeshift seats—like folding chairs or unsecured equipment—is extremely dangerous and completely unacceptable.
Your safety matters every time you get behind the wheel or ride as a passenger.
Please buckle up and ride safely, every trip, every time.
