CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> With the low gas prices around 110 million Americans are expected to travel by car for the holidays.
A new record 122.4 million total travelers will be on the road for the two weeks, that’s up 2% from last year (2024), according to AAA. They also said about 90% of holiday travelers will drive to their destinations. You can check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group before you go for up-to-date traffic conditions.
NO ROADWORK Saturday December 20 – Sunday morning January 4 from the 10 freeway up to Stateline on Interstate 15 this Christmas/New Year week. Roadwork with lane closures starts Monday Jan 5.
Expect traffic delays to start each day starting on Saturday afternoon/evening for northbound I-15 and afternoon/evening for southbound I-15 in the Cajon Pass, Devore, Hesperia, Victorville, Barstow, Baker, and Stateline areas. Try to travel during off peak hours (like the early morning or late at night). The worst time to travel is around 2pm to 7pm on Wednesday. Traffic coming back is Sunday, the worst time is 12pm to 6pm. Each day will have more people will be traveling on the freeway due to no schools for the next two weeks.
Also, with the weather turning bad starting on Tuesday afternoon and on Christmas Eve. I predict traffic many start this weekend, Monday or on Tuesday. Heavy rain showers on Wednesday and on Thursday.
If you plan to hit the road this Holiday or Holidays see below are some helpful tips to make your trip more enjoyable.
• Travel in early morning hours if possible – afternoon and the late afternoon is the wrost time to travel.
• BRING WATER! Also bring snacks and necessary medication the freeway or highway may closed due to weather or an accident.
• Have a full tank of gas before you go.
• Make sure your car is in good running condition. Check all the fluids, tires and tire pressure.
• Bring a charged cell phone (with a car charger).
• Use the restroom before you get on the road – you don’t know where you may get stopped for long periods of time.
• Please bring your patience. Don’t need road rage this Holiday weekend.
• Know before you go and check the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group for up-to-date traffic conditions on the 15 freeway. Plan ahead and add extra time before you travel. Have a positive attitude — relax and enjoy the ride!
