DETROIT, MI. (Pain In The Pass) >> Ford Motor Company has issued two more recalls for SUVs with potential problems that could lead to the infotainment system screen not displaying properly, which may interfere with the feed from the backup camera when in reverse.
The recalled SUVs are the:
• 2020-2022 Ford Escape
• 2020-2024 Ford Explorer
• 2021-2026 Ford Bronco
• 2021-2024 Ford Edge
• 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator
• 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsai
In some vehicles, a software problem may cause the image to flip or invert on the infotainment system. When backing up, this could create a confusing perspective for the driver.
A second recall is to address a potential problem with a hardware module. If that overheats, the image on the center screen may not display at all. Neither situation has caused any crashes or injuries, according to the automaker.
A fix is not yet available for this problem, but Ford says it’s working on software updates that will become available to owners, free of charge. The automaker will send two notifications, one to let owners know about the recall and another when a fix is available. The recall with the Bronco and Edge can be addressed by an over-the-air update, a visit to the dealership, or mobile service.
These recalls follow several recent ones for similar problems that have affected millions of Ford and Lincoln vehicles.
On the Bronco and Edge, a module in the vehicle may overheat and cause the backup camera not to display. On the Aviator, Corsair, Escape, and Explorer, a software problem may cause the center screen to display as flipped or inverted, a particular concern when in Reverse.
The fix: Ford is preparing free software updates to fix both defects, and it will notify customers when they are available.
