Five Vehicle Traffic Crash on Highway 18 in Apple Valley Saturday Night; One Driver Later Dies at Hospital

APPLE VALLEY, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person was killed and two people were injured in a five-vehicle crash on Highway 18 Saturday night, according to Apple Valley Police Department.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at approximately 9:40pm, deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response responded to a five-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on State Highway 18, near Mandan Road, in the town of Apple Valley.

During the investigation, deputies determined a white Nissan Frontier, driven by a 74-year-old male, Resident of Santa Ana, traveled westbound in the number one eastbound lane of Highway 18 toward Tao Road. For unknown reasons the driver of the Nissan Frontier crash into four other vehicles, cause a five-vehicle involved collision.

The other four vehicles were involved in the collision was a white Dodge Durango SUV, white Honda Accord sedan, white Honda Civic sedan, and a silver Honda Civic.

The driver of the Nissan Frontier suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Two drivers suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T.) assumed the investigation. The eastbound lanes of Highway 18 were closed between the intersections of Tao Road and Piute Road for approximately three hours, and the east and westbound lanes of Outer S Highway 18 South were closed between the intersections of Atnah Road and Mandan Road for approximately two hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
