LUDLOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person was airlifted after a crash on Interstate 40 Freeway near Hector Road Thursday morning.
The crash was reported around 3:46am on April 9, 2026, happened on eastbound lanes of I-40 the freeway about 6 miles from Hector Rd. exit, according to California Highway Patrol officers and the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Preliminary reports indicate a Chevrolet pickup truck or a Chevy SUV could have been rear-ended by a semi tractor-trailer at high speeds. The impact caused the semi tractor-trailer to overturn and both landed in the center median.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol traffic log the male driver of the Chevrolet was pinned in the wreckage.
Firefighters arrived shortly after and worked to free the man from the vehicle.
The driver was airlifted by Mercy Air 66 helicopter from the scene to St. Mary’s Medical Center with unknown injuries.
There was no update on the condition of the semi driver.
All lanes of the 40 Freeway were shut down as emergency crews performed rescue operations and CHP investigated the incident.
