BARSTOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> > A suspect is under arrest for suspicion of burglarizing a stationary rail car belonging to BNSF Railway in Barstow Sunday morning, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s reported.
Sunday morning at approximately 3am May 24, 2026, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Barstow station, Deputy Rivera observed a yellow box truck driving next to the railroad tracks. As Deputy Rivera approached the vehicle in his patrol unit, he noticed the box truck displayed paper plates and had no functioning brake lights.
Deputy Rivera attempted a traffic stop; however, the driver continued traveling at a slow speed before jumping out of the moving vehicle and fleeing on foot. The box truck eventually came to a stop after colliding with a berm.
Officials say the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, Deputy Rivera recovered more than $200,000 worth of New Balance shoes that had been stolen from a train boxcar.
