LUDLOW, CA. (Pain in The Pass) >> One person is in custody, two fled the scene after thieves descended freight train tracks in the Ludlow area Monday evening.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Station Deputies Elmendorf and Rivera responded to assist BNSF Railway Police regarding two box trucks seen near the railroad tracks in the Ludlow area.
While enroute, Deputy Rivera observed a box truck and a van with temporary plates traveling in the opposite direction.
Deputy Rivera immediately notified dispatch of the vehicle’s direction of travel and requested assistance from California Highway Patrol. At the same time, Sheriff’s Sergeant Gates positioned his patrol unit ahead of the fleeing vehicle and successfully intercepted the box truck.
As the vehicle came to a stop, three subjects fled from the truck on foot. Sergeant Gates apprehended the driver while the remaining subjects fled the area.
During the investigation, deputies discovered the box truck was loaded with approximately 400 cases of Yeti tumblers with an estimated value of $128,000.00.

Excellent teamwork between Barstow Sheriff’s Deputies, CHP, and BNSF Railway Police led to the recovery of the stolen merchandise and the arrest of one suspect.
