LUDLOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A severe thunderstorm system moved through parts of eastern desert of San Bernardino County Wednesday afternoon, knocking down power poles and lines, disrupting electric service and causing traffic delays on Interstate 40, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The storm started around 2:40pm August 12, 2026, in the town of Ludlow. The power line over I-40 Freeway at mile marker 37 between Hector Road and Lavic Rd.
The power lines have been cleared and the freeway has been reopened around 4:37pm, CHP said.
In another situation, about a mile away, firefighters were responding to an overturned semi tractor-trailer that was toppled by strong gusty winds. A part of westbound I-40 was blocked off as crews redirected traffic around the semi.
Both incidents cause quite a backup for commuters this afternoon.
