SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Highway Patrol’s 78-hour maximum enforcement period for Labor Day weekend begins Friday at 6pm and will continue through Monday, September 7, at 11:59pm.
CHP said officers will focus on removing drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol from the road.
Last year, CHP arrested more than 1,200 people for DUIs during the same holiday weekend.
During that same period, there were nearly 500 DUI-related crashes across the state that caused more than 270 injuries and eight deaths, according to CHP.
Motorists planning to drink were urged to designate a sober driver, use public transportation or a rideshare service, call a taxi or stay at their location for the night.
The CHP also urged motorists to always wear seat belts and advised anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver on the road to call 911.
