SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Brightline West high-speed train connecting Las Vegas with Southern California is still waiting on financing before resuming construction.
A spokesman for Brightline West confirmed that the transportation company is pursuing a $6 billion loan through the federal Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) program.
“This financing effort is not new and has been part of our ongoing discussions regarding the project’s development,” spokesman Antonio Castelan said. “We continue to work through the federal financing process and remain focused on advancing the project toward construction on building the rails.”
Local, state and federal officials joined Brightline executives to celebrate the groundbreaking of Brightline West back in 2024.
Crews had started field investigation work on the 218-mile project and a train station near Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road.
The project is estimated to cost over $21 billion. Brightline already secured a $3 billion Biden-era federal grant, which would be paid as a reimbursement contingent on minimum spending. The company has also sought to raise money through bonds, private equity and loans.
Brightline West said, “We are now focused on finalizing the project financing, which will allow us to move into full-scale construction, create thousands of jobs, and deliver a high-speed rail system connecting Las Vegas and Southern California in approximately four years when construction restarts.”
No additional updates on construction were available.
