ONTARIO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A car-to-car shooting prompted authorities to close a stretch of southbound 15 freeway in Ontario Monday evening.

California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene just after Jurupa Avenue exit. At about 5pm they were responding to calls of a crash. They found a dark gray Ford pickup truck that ran off the freeway, hit a pole, and with gun shot wounds.

The male driver of pickup truck was struck by the gun fire. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Exactly what led up to the shooting is unclear at this time, said California Highway Patrol. They also said this maybe a result of a road rage incident.

A witness reported seeing a black male adult wearing a black t-shirt driving a black Kia SUV, pull over and get out of his vehicle with a handgun in his hand.

No other details were immediately available, check back for updates.

Southbound 15 at the 10 freeway, there is no estimated time for reopening of closure.
