HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The Ranchero Road Widening Project just received $16 million in state funding Friday. This project is approximately a 5 mile stretch of road. Construction could start as early as this summer.

The funding is part of more than $556 million in funds the California Transportation Commission allocated to various projects to improve routes throughout California, said Caltrans District 8 on Friday.

The widening project of Ranchero Road which spans through San Bernardino County and parts of the City of Hesperia. This is the last project (Phases) of three. The other two improvements that have occurred along Ranchero Road over several years. (Railroad under-crossing bridge and I-15 Ranchero Rd bridge)

The widening project is planned for a 5-mile stretch of Ranchero Rd. from Mariposa Road to Seventh Avenue. Traffic signals will be be placed at the intersections of Maple Ave., Cottonwood Ave. and Seventh Ave. Also they will replace the bridge over the California Aqueduct, and widening the railroad crossing.

Construction is expected to start in July 2021, also noted that the project will be completed in phases “to minimize impacts to motorists.”

The total cost of the project is estimated at $64.1 million, with the City of Hesperia responsible for $37 million. The county and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority are expected to cover the remaining costs.
