HARVARD, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A big rig semi caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 Freeway just after Harvard Road exit on a get-away Friday afternoon. This created a small brush fire and thick black smoke cloud that you could see for miles away.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department were getting calls of a semi tractor-trailer on fire at about 2:32pm Friday, April 23, 2021. CHP and firefighters had to temporarily block both sides of the Interstate, while they worked on getting the semi tractor-trailer fire put out. Firefighters also stopped a small brush fire that spread across the Interstate due to gusty winds in the area.
CHP and Caltrans had the southbound slow lane blocked for the removal of the big rig from the Interstate and for the Hazmat cleanup. The slow lane was reopened at 11:30pm. Traffic was backedup for miles.
The driver was not injured when the semi went up in flames. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
