APPLE VALLEY, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A two vehicle crash between a big rig and a white sedan left the driver trapped underneath the big rig trailer, according to responding emergency crews.
California Highway Patrol and Apple Valley Fire Department responded to the crash. CHP reported that the driver of a white Hyundai Sonata was trapped underneath a big rig trailer. The crash happened at about 3:26pm Monday August 9, 2021, on northbound Interstate 15 off ramp to Stoddard Wells Road/Bell Mountain.
The lone occupant of the car, a male, was pinned behind the wheel and appeared to be alert and conscious with unknown injuries. Firefighters deployed rescue tools to gain access the passenger compartment. Crews were able to free the driver in about 30 to 45 minutes, as they worked to stabilize him and ready for transport. A CHP helicopter #80 was summoned to the scene, landing on the road and the victim was airlifted from the scene to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, with unknown injuries. The big rig driver was unhurt in the crash.
The big rig driver exited off of northbound 15 Stoddard Wells Road. He made a stop at the stop sign, then made a left turn right in front of the white Hyundai. The Hyundai crashed under the trailer. The Hyundai should of had the right of way with no stop sign on his side. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Office.
