CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person was transported to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after their SUV went off southbound Interstate 15, rolled about 100 feet down a cliff and landed on Cajon Boulevard old Route 66.
CHP officers and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic accident. The accident was reported at about 3:22pm, Tuesday August 24, 2021. Southbound Interstate 15 between Cleghorn and Kenwood Avenue exit. It was reported to be a single vehicle involved in the crash. A white SUV lost control, hit the guardrail on the right shoulder of the freeway and went down the cliff, rolling over multiple times. The vehicle involved was reported to be a white Toyota 4Runner, it landed on it’s side onto Cajon Boulevard old Route 66.
From reports the driver was ejected from the 4Runner. The driver was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition. CHP had to close Cajon Blvd. due to the investigation and for the clean-up.
Initial witness accounts indicated that the SUV lost control about two miles after Cleghorn Road and went over the side of the freeway. The vehicle rolled over and landed on the road below on Cajon Blvd. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol San Bernardino Office.
Update at 6pm the driver was in critical condition.
