HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> On Tuesday October 5th the Hesperia City Council will consider awarding Sully-Miller Contracting Company a construction contract for the Ranchero Road corridor widening project.
The widening project is planned for a 5-mile stretch of Ranchero Rd. from Mariposa Road to Seventh Avenue. the new traffic signals will be be placed at the intersections of Maple Ave., Cottonwood Ave., and Seventh Ave. Also they will replace the bridge over the California Aqueduct, and widening the railroad crossing between Oak Hills High School and 15 freeway.
The project is being constructed in partnership with San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, apart from the aqueduct bridge which is a city-only portion of the work is from Measure I funds. Roughly half of the project is within the county’s jurisdiction.
Removing the existing aqueduct two-lane bridge and constructing a new bridge is estimated to cost the city of Hesperia $16 million from reports. The aqueduct bridge is located on Ranchero Road between Cottonwood and Seventh Avenue. The new bridge will consist of six traffic lanes and shared pedestrian/bicycle pathways.
Construction is expected to start this fall 2021, and last 18-months if no weather or construction-related issues. A noted that the project will be completed in phases “to minimize impact traffic to motorists.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $64.1 million, with the City of Hesperia responsible for $37 million. The county and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority is expected to cover the remaining costs.
