PINON HILLS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A Palmdale man has been identified as the driver killed in a crash Friday morning on Highway 138, authorities said.
Jesus Valles, a 49-year-old male was the driver killed and a male teenager passenger was injured. They hit a patch of black ice on Highway 138 Friday morning at about 5:38am December 31, 2021. According to the California Highway Patrol, they were heading East on Hwy 138 between Phelan Road and Beekley Road.
He was driving a gray Toyota Sequoia that spun off of the roadway, rolled over multiple times, and landed on its wheels in a ditch off of the shoulder of the highway according to the CHP Traffic log. There was a total of four people inside of the Toyota. From reports a female passenger and two teenagers were able to get out. One of the boys had an injured leg. The driver was found unresponsive in the driver seat. Unfortunately even with the help of life-saving efforts, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The boy was transported by an ambulance to a local hospital.
The black ice also caused several vehicles to spin out or lose control in the same area just after the crash. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Office. Additional details were limited.
