BIG BEAR, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A winter storm system dropping down into Arizona and parts of California on Friday, just enough to bring in a strong northerly flow around it.  This northerly flow will pick up some moisture along the way and hit the Northeastern side of the San Bernardino Mountains Friday night through the weekend.  Off and on snow showers will be likely during this period. (Advair Diskus) If you are coming up this weekend please bring your snow chains.

Southern California Weather Force Weather Service has issued a Blowing Snow Advisory for Big Bear Lake area to Onyx Summit where I’ve now UPGRADED the amount of snowfall from 2-6″ for Big Bear Lake and 6″ for the Onxy Summit by the time the system moves out after the weekend.

If you need to travel to and from Big Bear Lake, take the Hwy 18 from San Bernardino west to the rim.  Do not take the Hwy 38 through Onyx Summit as to avoid the snow risks and icy roads conditions. In addition to the snow conditions, the gusty winds can gust over 50+ mph, this will make for blowing snow at times with limited visibility. This can be a major travel hazard for flatlanders.
