VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A 4-month-old boy was killed after a crash in Victorville on northbound Interstate 15 Tuesday morning. California Highway Patrol official describing the crash as “completely preventable.”
California Highway Patrol and Victorville City Fire Department responded to the traffic collision. They reported the crash at about 3:11am Tuesday February 8, 2022, on northbound I-15 just before the Palmdale Road exit. A 30-year-old Apple Valley woman was driving northbound in a Hyundai SUV at an unknown speed when she approached a vehicle in front of her, according to authorities. She failed to slow behind the slower moving vehicle ahead and struck the rear of that vehicle, CHP said. After striking the rear of the other vehicle, her Hyundai became disabled in the traffic lanes. The vehicle the woman struck did not stop, and the crash is being considered to be a hit-and-run. The unknown color or vehicle should have major rear-end damage and was last seen going northbound on I-15.
The infant in the Hyundai was sitting in the right rear passenger seat in a car seat, but without a seat belt. He suffered major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Victor Valley Global Medical Center. The 4-month-old-boy was pronounced deceased at the hospital about a half-hour later.
The woman driver of the Hyundai was also not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. Also a 4-year-old boy sitting in the backseat was not injured. Authorities could not confirm whether the 4-year-old boy was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
CHP suspects speed could be a factor in the crash but no other details have been released. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the collision can call the Victorville CHP Office at (760) 241-1186.
This is a devastating reminder that tragedies such as these could he prevented if you wear your seat belts and securely buckle your children into the car.
