BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person was injured and had to be flown to a trauma hospital after a big rig rear-ended a moving big rig on southbound Interstate 15 Thursday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic collision. The crash was reported at about 1:35pm, Thursday March 3, 2022. The location of the crash was about 20 miles south of the town of Baker on southbound I-15 between Basin Road and Afton Rd.

The two big rigs involved were a purple tractor pulling a empty cargo trailer with heavy front end damage. The other big rig was a white tractor hauling empty moving pods with damage to one of the pods and the trailer. The purple big rig spilled approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel on the ground and roadway.

Firefighters requested a medical helicopter for the purple big rig driver for transport to a local hospital. The medical helicopter landed on the Interstate, Mercy Air #66 airlifted the patient to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The big rig driver condition is unknown.

This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
