CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> No one was seriously injured during a wrong-way head-on crash in the Cajon Pass that happened Thursday morning on northbound Interstate 15.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a multiple vehicle crash. The collision was reported at about 8:54am, Thursday April 28, 2022. It was located on northbound Interstate 15 just after Kenwood Avenue. The vehicles involved according to the CHP traffic log were a black Honda CRV and a sliver Honda Accord. From CHP traffic log stated the CRV was traveling southbound going the wrong-way and collided in the path of the sliver Accord that was traveling in the northbound #2 lane. The impact sent the CRV upside down in the traffic lanes.
According to CHP, the male driver of the CRV ran from the crash scene down the embankment across the southbound side. Minutes later CHP did make contact with the driver that fled the scene. One person was taken to a hospital by a ambulance, where they were listed as having leg injuries.
The identity of the male driver who ran from the scene is not known at this time.
For reasons still under investigation, why the male driver of the black Honda CRV was driving southbound in the northbound lanes. The incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
