CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> June is the time when we start face the scorching summer heat. It would be best to keep in mind several factors so that your vehicle in top shape. Long drives and summer’s extreme heat can take a toll on your vehicle. Let’s see if we can save your vehicle.

Some tips to keep your vehicle healthy and well maintained are listed below.

Check your tires

One of the most neglected parts of the car is the tires. Only a few people take care of their tires as they should. If your tires are worn out, over-inflated, or underinflated, it can be very dangerous in the hot summer months. The tire pressure changes with changes in the temperature. Check your tires’ air pressure and sidewalls. Check that the treads are deep enough to have enough traction on the road so that your car does not skid. Remember check your spare tire too.

Change the oil and filter

The lifeblood is the oil in your car. It helps your engine stay lubricated and run smoothly. Most cars need their oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles. However, some oil specialists say that you need to change the oil every three months or 5,000 miles. We all drive a lot during the summer, and it is best to keep a check on the engine oil before driving. Look and check the dipstick and see if the color of the oil is appropriate and whether the oil level is up to the mark. If the color is dark, then it needs replacement due to grime and dirt. If the level is low, then it needs a top-up.

Examine the belts and hoses

You need to check that the hoses and belts are in top shape. The radiator has hoses that connect the pump coolant to the engine block. The belts help run the fan and keep the system cool. Your car’s radiator can overheat and breakdown if the belts snap or the hoses crack. Check and ensure that there are no leaks, cracks, or loose connections. The hoses should never be malleable or soft and should always be firm.  Check the belts for damage or cracks. If the belt is too slim or smooth, remove it and check whether it is in fine condition.

Replace the wipers blades

The winter and summer season takes a toll on your wipers blades. Ensure that your wipers are in top shape. If they Chattering, Squeaking, Streaking, or Smearing its time to replace them.

Check your batteries

To avoid any short circuits or battery failures, check your car’s battery health before stepping out in the summer heat. Make sure you look and clean the connections at the battery terminals. Also, check that all wires and fuse elements are properly insulated.

Proper and Working lights

This one is for your safety and well as for others safety on the road. Properly functioning headlights, tail-lights, fog lights and turn signals are crucial all year round. Overcast weather and with the summer monsoon weather can hamper visibility. Your car’s proper lights will not only make you visible to others on the road, it will illuminate your field of vision too.
