CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> All lanes are back open after the driver of an 18-wheeler hauling an empty tanker temporarily blocked the slow lane on Friday morning in the Cajon Pass after the semi’s trailer hit the guardrail and straddled it.

The crash happened at about 3:56am Friday July 1, 2022. The location was on northbound Interstate 15 about one mile before the Oak Hill Road exit. California Highway Patrol, and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash involving a semi pulling a tanker on top of the guardrail. When recuse crews arrived they saw the tanker straddling the top of the guardrail. They were afraid the semi and trailer may roll down the hill.

Preliminary information indicates a front tire on the semi carrying the tanker may have blew, causing it to hit a guardrail or the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.

No injuries were reported.

CHP and Caltrans issued a SIG-Alert for about 8 hours while they removed the semi 18-wheeler hauling an empty tanker and to repair about 50 feet of guardrail.

CHP has not released a cause of the crash. No further details have been provided at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office. Please check for updates on this incident.
