BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A driver 24-year-old Los Angeles man was killed in a crash on Interstate 15 near the town of Baker has been identified as Joey Dee Hagedorn.

The crash took place shortly after 5:30am August 6, 2022 near mile marker 148, near Halloran Springs Road, in the northbound lanes, California Highway Patrol said.

California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash involving two vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a semi tractor-trailer.

CHP officials said the Mercedes continued to travel at an unsafe speed for the slower-moving semi-trailer in front, and in an attempt to avoid a crash, Hagedorn swerved the vehicle to the right and collided with the rear of the trailer.

The Mercedes veered off the roadway and drove a bit across open desert terrain before rejoining the freeway. The Mercedes collided with the side of the semi and was pinned under the trailer. The vehicle dragged the vehicle for a short distance before it pulled onto the right shoulder and came to a stop, officials said.

The driver Hagedorn was pronounced dead at the scene. Also a 38 year old female was inside the vehicle was reported to be pregnant. Rescue crews requested a medical helicopter to transport the female. She was transported by Mercy Air #21 at the scene to Las Vegas University Medical Center in serious injuries. 

The semi driver was not injured.
