BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person was killed and two were injured in a crash that involved four vehicles on Interstate 15 Tuesday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters responded to the traffic crash. The collision was reported at about 12:07pm, Tuesday August 23, 2021. It was located on northbound Interstate 15 about four miles after Afton Road exit. The two lanes were blocked for hours due to the the investigation and removal of the vehicles.
From what the CHP traffic log stated the vehicles involved in the collision were a 26 foot bobtail box truck with major front end damage, a blue big rig tractor trailer with front end damage and damage to the trailer. The third vehicle was reported to be a Ford F-350 pulling a 22 foot gooseneck trailer loaded with chalkboards with rear damage to the trailer and a white pickup truck with minor damage.
Firefighters rendered aid to all the people involved in the crash. They requested three medical helicopters to transport all the victims. The CHP traffic log stated three people needed to be extricated from the scene.
Mercy Air #66 and Mercy Air #22 landed at the scene and flew two victims to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas in unknown condition. Mercy Air # 24 landed at the scene and was canceled due to the person deceased at the scene.
Traffic was backed up for over twelve miles and it took over two hours to pass the crash scene.
CHP has not released a cause of the crash and did not identify the victim at this time. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available.
