CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A chain-reaction crash involving three big rigs in the Cajon Pass halts traffic for more than 3 hours Wednesday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department received calls of a collision on northbound Interstate 15 about a mile after Highway 138 exit. The crash happened at about 12:52pm Wednesday on August 24, 2022.

The vehicles involved in the crash were a UPS tractor trailer with major damage to the cab and the cab separated from the tractor. The second vehicle was a red tractor trailer with minor damage to the cab and some damage to the rear of the trailer. The third vehicle was a blue tractor trailer with damage to the trailer. The fourth vehicle involved was a silver Toyota 4 Runner with some minor front end damage.

CHP officers issued a SIG Alert for the #1, 2, 3, and 4 lanes due to debris, fluid in lanes, and equipment to remove the UPS cab that became separated from the big rig laying on the ground. Only the #5 lane was open. At 3pm they removed the three big rigs and reopened all traffic lanes. Traffic was backed up all the way to the 210 freeway when the lanes were reopened.

When rescue crews arrived they said no major injuries were reported. The UPS driver only had minor injuries.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
