CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A big rig hauling a large forklift collided with the Highway 138 bridge over Interstate 15 Monday morning.

The incident happened around 9:34am Monday October 10, 2020. As the big rig was passing under the bridge, the forklift on the trailer hit the bottom of the bridge traveling in the slow lane and fell off, then the driver lost control, according to California Highway Patrol.

The big rig stopped on the #2 lane and the forklift fell off landing in the slow lane just after the bridge.

With any major contact to any part of a bridge there is a crew that comes out to inspect the bridge to make sure there is no major damage to the bridge structure. The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans had to shut down all lanes on the southbound side to check the damage.

Traffic was backed up for miles in the area for those making their way down the Cajon Pass. After about an hour, lanes were reopened.

Investigators say the truck driver may be ticketed with damaging the bridge. No injuries were reported.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
