Train Locomotive Catches On Fire Near Summit Valley Rd. In Hesperia Thursday

HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> BNSF Railway train made an unscheduled stop in the Cajon Pass late Thursday morning after one of the engines caught fire.

According to CAL FIRE Fire Department, crews were called just before noon on October 13, 2022 and found one of the four train’s locomotives on fire.

The engineer stopped the train so the burning engine was close to Summit Valley Road so it was easily accessible for fire apparatus. No train cars were endangered. The fire was extinguished within 15-30 minutes. Units were on the scene for nearly an hour to make sure no flare ups.

Summit Valley Road had one lane blocked near Trout Rd. during the fire fight.

No one was injured and the damage caused by the fire was contained to the engine bay.
