CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Rain-slicked roadways following about 3+ inches of rain on Tuesday morning/afternoon. This resulted in multiple crashes and spin-outs that snarled traffic across Interstate 15 from the high desert to the Inland Empire valley. A couple of notables was a water rescue in the Cajon Pass and multiple wrecks that occurred on Interstate 15.
One crash was reported at about 5:30am Tuesday, November 8, 2022. A car hydroplaned and a truck that crashed together blocking two lanes for over 30 minutes before northbound I-15 Cleghorn Road exit.
At about 7:50am northbound I-15, about two miles before Oak Hill Rd exit a multiple vehicle crash with a semi that crashed into the back of a sliver Kia sedan and a pickup truck spun out into the guardrail.
At 9:30am off of Swarthout Canyon Rd, and Cajon Blvd, old Route 66 there was a water rescue. Driver was able to get out with help of rescue members.
At about 12:47pm between Sierra Ave and Glen Helen Pkwy a multiple vehicle crash. CHP reported 5 vehicles involved in a collision.
Multiple solo vehicle spinouts.
No major injuries were reported.
The big part is the fact that we haven’t had heavy rain in months. The biggest concern is that when we get these rain storms, drivers are still driving like it’s dry. When we have a huge change in the weather, drivers need to slow down and drive smart.
Slow down and drive according to the weather conditions. This is especially important in the Cajon Pass and on Interstate 15 where drivers can find themselves losing control very quickly if they don’t slow down.
The other problem is the oil that builds up on roads surface. Oil has sat on the road since the last big rain storm.
