ORO GRANDE, CA. (Pain in The Pass) >> A deputy in a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office car were involved in a two-vehicle crash late Christmas Day in the Oro Grande area, California Highway Patrol said.

The collision was reported around 9:18pm December 25, 2022, near the intersection of National Trails Highway (Route 66) and Hibiscus Street in the unincorporated community of Oro Grande. CHP and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic collision involving a white San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Ford Explorer patrol vehicle and a sliver Chevrolet Impala sedan.

Rescue crews arrived at the scene and located a deputy unconscious in there patrol vehicle. Firefighters requested a medical helicopter to transport the sheriff deputy. The deputy was transported by helicopter CHP helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in unknown condition. The driver of the Chevy Impala was believed to have been ejected from the crash scene. The vehicle was on fire on impact stated on the CHP traffic log. Witness and rescue team weren’t able to locate the driver outside of the vehicle. The driver was found later deceased inside the burned vehicle after the firefighter fully extinguish the flames.
