FONTANA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Three people were killed in a wrong-way crash on the 210 Freeway in Fontana Saturday morning authorities said.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol said the department began receiving calls about a wrong-way driver going westbound on the eastbound side of the 210 freeway around 6:28am Saturday January 14, 2023. Then minutes later they received calls the wrong way driver was passing the 15 freeway going about 100 mph they were notified of the crash.

The wrong way driver was first spotted at Carnelian Street and drove in and out of the HOV and the #1 lane for about 6 miles going the wrong way. The wrong way driver was driving his green 2012 Ford Fusion sedan when he crashed into a sliver 2001 Lexus RX series SUV with two adults and three children inside. The collision happened near the Citrus Avenue exit, according to the CHP.

The driver of the wrong-way Ford, a 23-year-old man from Fontana, was pronounced dead at the scene. Also killed were the driver of the Lexus, a 43-year-old man from Highland, as well as a 16-year-old female passenger in the Lexus.

There were three additional passengers in the Lexus who were also seriously injured in the crash, a 5-year-old girl, a 3-year-old boy and a 42-year-old woman. All of the occupants of the Lexus were Highland residents, although it was not immediately known if they were all family members. They were all transported to local hospitals.
