BARSTOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A Homeless encampment fire along Interstate 15 at Riverside Drive Sunday morning spread to the trees as Barstow Police, California Highway Patrol, and Barstow Fire Department arrived on scene.
The fire was reported about 11:50am Sunday February 19, 2023. The camp was located about 100 feet next to northbound Interstate 15, off of Riverside Dr. in the city of Barstow.
The intense flames with the help of tires and oils spread into nearby brush and tress. The fire burned less than half of acre.
Barstow Fire Department with multiple units responded to the fire and crews were able to stop the forward progress at roughly 30 minutes.
Firefighters did remain in the area for mop-up operations for about an hour and to make sure no hot spots flare up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
