CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Family members have created a fundraiser on SpotFund.com, a campaign for a man who was killed in a single-car crash in the Cajon Pass over the weekend.
The campaign is being run through Facebook on behalf of the family of Richard “Richie” Ruiz, 29, of Hesperia. San Bernardino County Sheriff confirmed Ruiz’ identity in a media update on Monday morning.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department received calls at 11:32am Sunday on February 26, 2023. A passersby had seen a white 4 door sedan upside down with snow covering the vehicle off of Interstate 15 about a mile before the Cleghorn Road exit.
When the rescue units arrived they saw the car had come to a rest in a wash next to the fire road, 2N47 Cleghorn Ridge Rd. about 250 feet below the freeway.
But unfortunately, firefighters rendered aid to Ruiz but he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.
He leaves behind 2 children Noah (6) and Presley (4) and a family who are in need of help with burial and living expenses. “Any amount is greatly appreciated.”
