VICTORVILLE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A 5 acre vegetation fire was quickly contained by firefighters Monday afternoon burning through some brush in the Mojave River bottom.

The fire dubbed the River Fire was reported at about 1:12pm Monday, May 8, 2023. The located of the fire was at the end of Abbey Lane near Stoddard Wells Road in the city of Victorville, in the Mojave River river bottom.

With help from Victorville Fire Department, and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters were quickly on scene. The fire had consumed about five acres. At one point the fire could have potential for 20+ acres with moderate rate of spread.

Crews were able to stop the forward progress at roughly one hour.

Firefighters will be remain in the area for mop-up operations make sure no hot spots flare up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
