According to California Highway Patrol Traffic Log, an unknown black sedan pulled to the right shoulder of the freeway with flames coming out of the rear end. The car fire was reportedly happened on the northbound I-15 about a mile before Halloran Summit Road about 2:09pm July 9, 2023. The vehicle caught fire and quickly became engulfed. The fire quickly began to pop and then spread into the open desert brush with the help of gusty winds.

CHP and Caltrans had to temporally shut down northbound side due to smoke across the traffic lanes. Traffic coming from Las Vegas area was backup over eight miles long. The closed side of the freeway had over a six mile backup.

It took over two hours for firefighters to put the flames out.

Everybody inside the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle and walked away uninjured.
