The collision occurred about 1:14am August 12, 2023, on the northbound 15 just after the Oak Hill Road exit. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision. The two vehicles were a blue Honda Accord that believed hit the motor officer. Then in the traffic backup four more vehicles collided involving two white sedans, a black Jeep Cherokee, a grey Toyota sedan all with minor to major damage.

Responding officers and rescue crews from San Bernardino County Fire Department requested a medical helicopter to transport the motor officer from the scene. A CHP helicopter airlifted the officer and condition is not known but is expected to survive, CHP Officer said. The officer was being treated at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where other officers were seen arriving for visits.
