BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person were injured after a pop-up thunderstorm blew a semi tractor trailer over and multiples power poles along Interstate 15 in the town of Baker Thursday afternoon. (Photo above is credit by Marian Russ.)

The California Highway Patrol Traffic Log indicates that around 4:48pm on Thursday, August 31, 2023 of a roll-over crash. CHP and San Bernardino County Fire Department officials were called to the area of southbound I-15 at Baker Boulevard with reports of a single-vehicle incident due to bad weather conditions.

When officials arrived, they said they found a semi drive tractor trailer had been headed south on the interstate as a severe pop-up thunderstorm blew through the area with heavy rain showers and high gusty winds.

CHP noted that the high gusty winds caused the semi to roll over and land on its passenger’s side on the slow lane and right shoulder of the freeway. The driver was able to get out and walk around.

The semi driver was later taken to a local hospital with suspected to be minor injuries. 

The gusty winds from the thunderstorm did caused multiple power poles to snap along the interstate.

Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office.
