CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A car crash fell nearly 100 feet down an embankment in the Cajon Pass Sunday morning, injuring two people according to the California Highway Patrol.

The single vehicle accident happened on southbound Interstate 15 between the Oak Hills Road and Highway 138 exits at around 12:54am on October 22, 2023. The vehicle involved was reported to be a grey Nissan sedan unknown model.

The driver swerved, lost control, which caused the vehicle to hit the center divider, and careen down an embankment, according to witness stated on the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find the vehicle about 100 feet down from the freeway in the center divider into a ravine with two victims inside. Crews utilized extrication equipment commonly referred to as the “Jaws of Life” to make access and free the victims. Simultaneously, rescue personnel completed a rope rescue system to safely bring both victims back to the roadway.

Two people were transported by ground ambulances to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

CHP are still working to determine exactly how the crash happened. We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
