BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A driver and a passenger were rushed to the hospital with major injuries after colliding with a tree on southbound Interstate 15 Saturday afternoon, California Highway Patrol said.

The single vehicle accident happened on southbound I-15 near Basin Road exit at around 2:39pm on October 28, 2023. The vehicle involved was reported to be a black Toyota Corolla sedan. CHP, which responded to the crash, said it is unclear what caused the driver to veer off the roadway.

Firefighters arrived on scene and locate the Toyota. They called for a medical helicopter and a ambulance to the scene.

One person was transported by ground ambulances to a local hospital with unknown injuries. CHP said the passenger had multiples puncture wounds to both arms and other injuries. Reach Air Medical #13 landed on scene and the other injured person was transported via air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

The driver had been swerving all over the roadway, driving at high speeds, according to multiple witnesses stated on the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log. Alcohol and/or drugs may believed to be factor in this crash. 

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Office.
