CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Woman left trapped in a van following a crash which resulted in a traffic delay Sunday afternoon on Intestate 15 in the Cajon Pass. (Photo above is credit by Heather Connell)

The crash happened at about 3:44pm December 3, 2023 on southbound I-15 at the truck scales just before Cleghorn Road. California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department crews were called to the scene of a silver Nissan NV Cargo van towing a trailer. It crashed through a guardrail and hit a light pole at the Cajon Scales. The other vehicle involved was a light blue Toyota Prius sedan, which stopped in the center divider.

The driver of the Nissan van was able to get out of the van and was injured. A female passage was trapped inside and rescue crews were involved in a somewhat lengthy extrication. She was freed and transported by Mercy Air Helicopter to a local trauma center with unknown injuries.

No injuries were reported in the Toyota Prius.

Traffic was backed up all the way to Oak Hill Road.

It was reported on the CHP traffic log, the van was driving at a high rate of speed prior to the collision,
