APPLE VALLEY, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person has been airlifted to hospital after a semi slammed in the back of another semi tractor trailer on Interstate 15 Wednesday night. (Photo above is credit by Matt Barnes.)

The crash was reported at about 7:03pm December 13, 2023. the located of the collision was on northbound I-15 just before the Wild Wash Road exit. California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene. 

CHP stated on the traffic log a semi tractor trailer had a blow out and became disabled in the slow lane. This is when the second semi slammed into the back of the trailer.

The driver that slammed in the back of the trailer was reportedly trapped inside cab of the truck. Firefighters were trying to extricate the driver, they were able to free the driver from the cab. Firefighters requested a medical helicopter to transport the driver to a local trauma center. Reach Air Medical helicopter #13 landed on the freeway to transport the driver to Loma Linda University Medical Center in unknown condition.

The other semi driver was not injured in the collision.

Both semis were blocking the middle and slow lane with debris across all the lane at one point. Both semis were reported to be loaded with grocery store items. Approximately 50 gallons of diesel and oil mixed spilled across the traffic lanes, then into a storm drain that flowed into the open desert before it was stop.
