CAJON PASS, CA. {Pain In The Pass) >> A helicopter airlifted a man to the hospital after he rolled his Jeep on Cleghorn Ridge OHV Road 2N47 on Saturday morning.
About 10:44am January 13, 2024, San Bernardino County Fire and U.S. Forest Service – San Bernardino Office also assisted responded crews were dispatched to Cleghorn Ridge OHV/Forest Service Road 2N47, East of Interstate 15 for a Jeep that had rolled. 2N47 is a rugged trail popular with off-roaders in the Cajon Pass. 911 callers stated a Jeep had rolled over, trapping one person underneath the vehicle.
Due to the remote area San Bernardino Sheriffs Department Aviation Division 306 air resources were requested. Firefighters responded in all-terrain rescue vehicles (ARV) & conventional fire apparatus to the area. The ARV platform utilizes an off-road 4×4 UTV allowing our personnel to make access where our conventional apparatus can’t.
Firefighters and Sheriff personnel coordinated rescue efforts, utilizing the helicopter for shuttling personnel & equipment to the remote location. Once arrived they found one adult male underneath a rolled silver Jeep Wrangler. Firefighter-Paramedics simultaneously worked on advanced life saving care and complex rescue operations. Steep terrain, leaking fuel and an unstable ground complicated rescue operations.
Ultimately firefighters were able to free the adult male from the vehicle. He was hoisted into Sheriff’s Aviation Air Rescue Unit 306 for transport to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The operation in total took multiple hours to complete.
