The crash occurred in the area of Phelan Road near White Rd. California Highway Patrol said the black Hyundai SUV traveled onto the railroad crossing just after 1:06pm January 21, 2024 when it was struck by the train.

San Bernardino County Fire Department recuse team responded to the scene and reported they had a total of two people involved in one vehicle. They rendered aid to the people trapped inside the Hyundai. One person was transported from the scene by Mercy Air #22 helicopter to Antelope Valley Medical Center with a broken arm and undisclosed injuries. The other person was reported to have minor injuries and was transported to same hospital. The train crew was not injured in the collision.

For a little over a hour, the area was a traffic nightmare as the westbound and eastbound lanes along Phelan Road were blocked, leading to drivers being redirected on dirt roads.

Roadway was reopen as of 2:38pm as the train continue on its route.

CHP officials say that railroad officials typically handle the full investigation into incidents such as this when someone is injured by a train.
