BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Highway Patrol has released details on the fatal head-on collision that occurred Saturday afternoon on northbound Interstate 15 that left a woman and two children dead. Photo above is credit by Nicole Rivera.)

The collision occurred about 1:44pm on Saturday March 30, 2024. The crash location was near the Halloran Spring Road exit on northbound I-15.

According to CHP Incident Report, a gray Kia SUV, driven by a 52-year-old man from Madera, California, encountered heavy downpour of rain leading to the driver to lose control and subsequent hydroplaning on southbound I-15.

The Kia skidded across the lanes, went into the center median, and into the northbound lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a black Mercedes-Benz GLE-350 SUV.

The Kia had a total of five people inside and the Mercedes-Benz with four people inside.

Two individual’s passengers have been ID in the Kia as Alicia M. Ramos, 43-year-old and a 13-year-old son Isaac, both resident of Madera, a town near Fresno. Ramos succumbed to her injuries while enroute to Barstow Community Hospital, while her son Isaac died at the scene. The driver and two other children remain in critical condition.

The 38-year-old male driver of the Mercedes, which carried three passengers: a 34-year-old woman, a 15-year-old girl, and an 11-year-old boy, were residents of Los Angeles. The 11-year-old boy has been ID as Mateo (Derek) German was killed at the scene. The driver and two passengers remain in critical condition.

The California Highway Patrol has said that neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be contributing factors to this incident. It looks like speed and weather were a factor.
