San Bernardino County Fire Department said the fire was reported around 5:45pm in the Cajon Pass on March 30, 2024. BNSF freight train stopped near Kennbrook Road and Cajon Boulevard old Route 66 in San Bernardino.

Fire crews saw the two burning Swift container rail cars but had difficulty accessing it due to its location on tracks with limited vehicle access.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter 40 King, along with deputies and CHP officers also responded to investigate a reported cargo theft at the same location.

After about 30 minutes flames were extinguish.

No suspects were located and it’s not clear if the train cars were actually looted.
