PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A head-on collision in Phelan Sunday night left a man and a woman dead and one airlifted, officials said. (Photo above is credit by Tabitha MT Robinson)
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department received calls of a head-on crash with two vehicles. The crash was reported to be on Phelan Road near Tumbleweed Road. The collision happened at about 8:15pm Sunday, April 14, 2024.
The two vehicles involved in the head-on crash were a white GMC Yukon and a blue Subaru Forester.
A 38-year-old Oak Hills woman was driving a white GMC Yukon and a passenger were heading eastbound along Phelan Rd. just prior to the collision, and a 27-year-old Phelan man was headed westbound in a blue Subaru Forester, CHP Officer Xavier Rodriguez said in a written statement.
It was reported the driver of the GMC Yukon veered to the left from the eastbound lane, crossing the left turn lane, into the westbound lane and into the path of the Subaru.
When first responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver of the Subaru deceased inside. The driver of the Yukon succumbed to her injuries at a hospital a short time later. A passenger in the Yukon was airlifted by Mercy Air 22 to Antelope Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
Both identities will be withheld pending next of kin notification.
The incident is being investigated by the CHP’s Victorville Office. Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact the office at (760) 241-1186.
