Auto theft investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s also known as SANCATT, were working on an auto theft investigation and learned that the suspects were using stolen vehicles to burglarize the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) freight trains. Offices busted the theft ring in the West Cajon Valley area.

Authorities said the thieves boarded a BNSF train, and immobilizing it. Then, they cut open locked shipping containers and tried to load cargo into the multiple vehicles.

The suspects fled the scene at high speeds in a short pursuit on northbound Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass. The vehicle reportedly crashes or disabled in the center divider about a mile after the Highway 138 exit. The suspects ran in four different directions in the middle of the freeway in the open desert. Another pursuit ended with a different vehicle near the disable train on Santa Fe Fire Road dirt road.

All lanes of the I-15 freeway in the Cajon Pass were temporary blocked lanes to look for the train theft suspects.

With help by a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter and K9’s dogs, they location everybody and were all arrested.

Due to the ongoing investigation, deputies said they won’t reveal how many people were arrested during Tuesday’s train burglary. They only said several people were booked on numerous felony charges.
