The fire was reported at about 1pm, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, off of I-40 near Needles Highway exit in the city of Needles.
San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters were quickly on scene and called for more support due to hot temperatures and the afternoon gusty winds. The winds were gusting about 10 to 20 mph in medium flashy brush fanning the flames.
Structures are threatened and Highway 95 is closed at this time.
At 2:45 the fire had jumped the Colorado River and is burning on the Arizona side.
Evacuation Warning on the Arizona side, officials are advising that if anyone wants to leave, they can go up Evans Rd or Dike Rd to Reservation Lane. The gates are unlocked and open.
As of 7pm the fire has burned at approximately a little over 200 acres last mapped. The forward spread has slowed
No structures have been reported to be damage or destroyed at this time.
Update at 10pm; One structure is destroyed and the foward progress has been stopped. The fire has burned 204 acres.
Update at 8:30am Sunday All evacuations have lifted and roads are open.
California Highway Patrol incident log stated a tire came off of a trailer, probably due to a flat and the rim sparked the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
